Welcomes SRMIST Delegation to Advance Collaboration

in AI, Chemistry, and Life Sciences

         The Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMUC), welcomed an academic delegation from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), India, from June 12 to June 16, 2026. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for both institutions to explore academic collaboration, international talent development, and interdisciplinary innovation, with a particular focus on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with chemistry, life sciences, and healthcare technologies.

        The SRMIST delegation was led by Prof. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar of SRMIST. Delegation members included Prof. Paromita Chakraborty, Director of the Center for Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Research; Dr. Deiva Preetha and Dr. Selvakumarasamy, Associate Professors in the Department of Computational Intelligence; Dr. Arun C, Assistant Professor; Dr. Anupama CG, Deputy Director of International Relations; and Ms. Ling-Yun Tsai from the SRMIST Chinese Language Center.

        The KMUC hosting team was led by Prof. Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, together with Prof. Chih-Neng Hsu, Dean of the College of Life Sciences, and Prof. Kuma, Director of International Affairs and Research of the College of Life Sciences and faculty member of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry. Faculty members from both the Department and the College of Life Sciences also participated in the discussions.

        During the visit, Prof. Wei-Yu Lin presented an overview of Kaohsiung Medical University and the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, highlighting the department’s recent achievements in medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, biomaterials, drug discovery, natural products research, environmental health, and AI-assisted chemical sciences. He also introduced the department’s comprehensive academic programs, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees, as well as initiatives in international student recruitment, interdisciplinary curriculum development, industry-academia collaboration, and global engagement.

        The discussions focused on potential collaborations in chemistry, life sciences, environmental sciences, computational intelligence, and healthcare technologies. A major highlight was the application of AI in chemistry and life sciences, including AI-assisted analytical chemistry, cheminformatics, metabolomics, lipidomics, biomedical data analytics, environmental monitoring, predictive modeling, and precision medicine. These discussions reflected a shared commitment to advancing scientific innovation through interdisciplinary and international collaboration.

        Both institutions also exchanged ideas regarding student exchange programs, dual-degree opportunities, faculty and student mobility, internships, joint research projects, collaborative publications, and international research funding applications. The participants expressed strong interest in establishing long-term institutional partnerships to strengthen research excellence and global talent development.

        Prof. Wei-Yu Lin noted that academic exchanges between the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMUC), and SRMIST began in 2019. Over the years, both institutions have maintained close interactions through reciprocal visits, academic exchanges, and collaborative research activities. In 2025, a delegation led by the Vice Chancellor of SRMIST visited KMUC, further strengthening the partnership between the two institutions. Prof. Lin emphasized that the current visit not only builds upon previous achievements but also creates new opportunities for collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, medicinal chemistry, life sciences, and healthcare technologies. Both institutions are committed to expanding future cooperation through student exchange programs, dual-degree initiatives, joint research projects, and international funding applications.

        Dean and Prof. Sodio Hsu welcomed the SRMIST delegation and highlighted the importance of international collaboration in advancing life sciences and healthcare research. Prof. Kuma further facilitated discussions on future collaborative directions, focusing on AI-assisted analytical technologies, sustainable chemistry, environmental health, and biomedical innovation.

        The visit concluded with productive discussions and a shared commitment to strengthening future cooperation. Through continued academic exchanges, joint research activities, and international collaborative projects, both institutions aim to enhance research capacity and global competitiveness. The visit not only reinforced the academic partnership between KMUC and SRMIST but also established a solid foundation for future collaborations in artificial intelligence, medicinal chemistry, life sciences, and emerging health technologies.
