Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry Visits UPLB in the Philippines to Advance Dual Degree Program and Joint Research Collaboration

On February 4, 2026, Professor Sodio C.N. Hsu, Dean of the College of Life Sciences, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), together with Professor Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, visited the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The delegation held in-depth academic discussions and explored future collaboration opportunities with Professor Gladys Cherisse J. Completo, Director of the Institute of Chemistry (IC), as well as faculty members from related units.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Vice Chancellor of UPLB, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Dean of the Graduate School. The group also toured the Nanotechnology Laboratory and other research facilities at the Institute of Chemistry, gaining valuable insights into UPLB’s research strengths in nanotechnology, biochemistry, and sustainable technologies.

At the academic seminar, Professor Wei-Yu Lin introduced the development and research focus of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, highlighting potential areas for collaboration including medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, functional materials, biomedical applications, and industry-oriented research. He further engaged in discussions with UPLB faculty and students on topics such as joint research projects, co-supervision of graduate students, shared experimental resources, and cross-institutional course arrangements.

During the exchange, UPLB faculty and students also expressed strong interest in the TEEP Program and the IIPP Program promoted by KMU’s College of Life Sciences, recognizing them as promising platforms for future talent cultivation and practical
