Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, Kaohsiung Medical University Strengthens International Collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Chungbuk National University, Korea

In response to the Ministry of Education’s “Bilingual 2030 Policy,” the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry at Kaohsiung Medical University (KMUC) plans to establish an English-taught program starting in the 116th academic year. By actively promoting English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), the department aims to provide students with diverse learning opportunities and enhance their international competitiveness.

To strengthen bilingual teaching capacity and deepen international academic collaboration, the department invited the Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Chungbuk National University (CBNU), Prof. Tae-Soo You, along with Prof. Woon Yong Sohn and Prof. Cheoljae Kim, to visit KMU from January 19 to 21, 2026, for academic exchange activities. On January 20, at the College of Life Sciences, KMU, the two departments formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), witnessed by faculty members from both institutions. The MoU was signed by Prof. Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry at KMU, and Prof. Tae-Soo You, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at CBNU, marking a significant milestone in the establishment of a long-term partnership between the two departments.

The exchange focused on planning dual-degree programs, developing student exchange mechanisms, and sharing research achievements of the CBNU Department of Chemistry, as well as its practical experience in promoting a bilingual chemistry learning environment in higher education. Through in-depth exchanges of teaching and research experiences and the sharing of educational perspectives, the collaboration aims to build faculty consensus, enhance the quality and effectiveness of bilingual instruction, and foster a shared vision for advancing bilingual chemistry education.
