KMU Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry Hosts
“One-Day Food Safety Inspector” Experiential Program

The Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry at Kaohsiung Medical University KMUC successfully held the “One-Day Food Safety Inspector” Experiential Program on December 6, 2025, attracting a large number of high school students interested in food safety and chemical analysis. The program combined lectures and hands-on laboratory practice, allowing participants to gain firsthand experience in food safety testing and analytical chemistry.

The morning session was led by Professor Genin Gray Huang, the program organizer, and Professor Vinod Kumar, who introduced food safety issues from an analytical chemistry perspective. Through clear and engaging explanations, students learned how chemical components in food are detected, why food additives must be strictly monitored, and the critical role of scientific analysis in ensuring food safety. Active participation and lively discussions reflected the students’ strong interest and engagement.

In the afternoon, students entered the laboratory for hands-on experiments. Wearing lab coats and safety goggles, participants personally carried out testing procedures, including sample preparation, reaction observation, and result interpretation. The experience closely simulated the workflow of professional food inspectors. The program concluded with a guided tour of the instrument room, where students observed advanced analytical equipment and learned about their practical applications in food safety testing.

The experiential program not only enhanced students’ understanding of food safety issues but also strengthened their interest in chemical analysis and laboratory practice. Many participants commented that the integration of theory and hands-on experience made the learning process both memorable and rewarding.
