Visit to King’s Ground Biotech:
Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration in Green Circular Technology
On June 3, 2025, a delegation from the College of Life Sciences at Kaohsiung Medical University visited King’s Ground Biotech Co., Ltd. in the Neipu Industrial Park, Pingtung County, for in-depth discussions on future industry-academia collaborations.
The delegation included: Dr. Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry; Dr. Pei-Feng Liu, Chair of the Department of Biomedical and Environmental Biology; Dr. Wei-Ting Liao, Chair of the Department of Biotechnology and faculty members serving as program coordinators
King’s Ground Biotech has long been dedicated to the valorization of agricultural and food processing by-products through the development of green circular technology. The company’s patented Adversity Solid-State Fermentation Technology effectively transforms tea leaves, okara (soybean pulp), coffee grounds, and other agro-waste into high-value functional animal feed ingredients and health products—demonstrating both strong R&D capabilities and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
During the visit, KMU representatives engaged in comprehensive dialogue with Chairman Hugo Yang(楊青山), Vice General Manager Dr. Bruce Yu(尤封陵), R&D Director Beebee Pi(畢家甄), and Marketing Manager Allen Su(蘇毓智—a 2014 alumnus of KMU’s Department of Biotechnology—as well as other members of the research team.
Topics of discussion included:
• Leveraging the research expertise of the College of Life Sciences
• Co-developing biologically active, high-value functional products
• Exploring mechanisms for technical exchange and joint innovation
The visit significantly deepened ties between academia and industry, laying the groundwork for potential cooperation in product innovation, resource integration, talent development, and technology transfer. Both sides expressed strong expectations for continued collaboration in the near future.
